This photograph was on display in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History as part of the Wilderness Forever exhibit, a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act.
I watched this eagle crash and cartwheel into the ocean. I thought he was injured when he didn’t move for a minute, so I paddled closer in my kayak, and he started swimming towards shore using his wings as oars (whoa). His problem? He couldn't fly with such a big salmon. I watched him devour the whole thing, just a few feet away. Pretty amazing.
